Agfa Graphics Plate Facility in Leeds, UK, Wins Manufacturing Excellence Award.

Agfa Graphics announced today that the company won first prize in a national award competition from the prestigious Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in the UK. Agfa faced strong competition from some of the UK's best-run businesses to secure the award for the company's leadership in environmental excellence. The Leeds production plant, which manufactures printing plates for Agfa Graphics, was honoured with the MX Arup Award for Sustainable Manufacturing for improving its treatment of waste by 98.5%, virtually eliminating landfill.

Agfa Graphics Launches :ApogeeX with Automatic Barcode Generation.

Agfa Graphics announced today that :ApogeeX 3.5, Agfa's award-winning prepress production workflow software, now provides automatic generation of barcodes. These barcodes, which contain valuable production information of the printing project, ensure the seamless integration of prepress, press and post-press equipment by adding reliability, control and automation, and allows smooth printing and finishing (cutting and folding). :ApogeeX 3.5 supports four different barcode standards that can be read by press and post-press equipment providers WST Systemtechnik GmbH (www.wst.eu), Müller Martini AG (www.mullermartini.com), Nela GmbH (www.nela.de) and Lehner GmbH (www.lehner-gmbh.com).

The New York Times Company Completes Installation of Nationwide :Arkitex System.

Agfa Graphics today announced that as part of its five-year strategic alliance with The New York Times Company it has completed the installation of :Arkitex Courier and :Arkitex Director. Together, :Arkitex Courier and Director operate as an automated, single transmission and printing solution giving The New York Times newspaper a seamless workflow between its newsroom operations and printing facilities across the United States.
